It was Fayth’s mom, Joanna calling. “Happy New Year Fayth!” she said. “Happy New Year to you to mom”, replied Fayth. Joanna was talking about how they attended church and now they were back at home. “Coming by for breakfast?” she said. Fayth replied, “Not sure. What time?” Still drinking her glass of wine, Fayth thought to herself, “couldn’t be no earlier than 10 am; hopefully.” Fayth was not a morning person. She hated getting up in the morning especially if she didn’t have to. Joanna responded “About 10 am.” “Ugh!” Fayth said to herself. “Okay, we’ll be there.” Now, Fayth’s mother was a quiet and reserved woman; conservative, but also sassy. Rockin’ a salt and pepper hair do complete with ring curls. She did always have some thick hair going on. Fayth said good night to her mother.

Fayth poured herself another glass of Moscato D’Asti. The sparkling wine was so sweet and oh so relaxing. Fayth hoped that 2011 will be a better year for her. She daydreamed about her heart’s desire….a husband. She wondered if it would ever happen. She’s been divorced for what seemed like forever. Okay, 15 years to be exact. Fayth started to cry and prayed to God about it. “Lord.” she spoke softly. “Are you there? You know what’s in my heart. When God? When?” Then she started to think about Nicholas.

They met in college. When they met, it was like they truly belonged together. Immediately, they were drawn together. Nicholas Carter was an extremely handsome man. Standing at 6’3 and weighing about 240 pounds. He had muscle in all the right places. By definition, Nicholas was a very sexy man. They began dating and it turned into a whirlwind romance. Nicholas was good to Fayth, for the most part. Fayth did wonder why she hadn’t heard from Nicholas yet. “No worries!” she said. Fayth finished the last of her glass of wine and walked into the kitchen to put her empty glass in the sink. Then she walked over to where Natalie was sleeping. Fayth gently woke Natalie up and told her to go to bed.

Fayth’s cell phone started blaring indicating text messages received. Fayth looked at her phone and saw Happy New Year text messages from Cherry, Tamara, Jennifer, Diane and other friends. You know the ones: they only text or call on special occasions. It was nice to be thought of regardless. However, Cherry, Tamara, Jennifer and Diane are Fayth’s closest friends. Fayth replied to all of them then went to bed.

Monday morning came very quickly for Fayth. “Ugh!” cried Fayth. “Not today. Why can’t today be a holiday?” Fayth got up and did her usual routine including getting Natalie to school. Fayth got to work before eight. She went to the break room and filled her water bottle up and also poured herself a cup of coffee. Her co-worker, Kandi walked in. “Good morning Fayth” said Kandi. “Good morning Kandi. Oh, Happy New Year to you.” Kandi turned to Fayth and looked very upset about something. Fayth was not prepared for what came next.

…Five, four, three, two, one….Happy New Year said the voices of Ryan Seacreast and Dick Clark. “Finally! 2011 has arrived”, said Fayth. “I hope this year will be better than 2010.” It was another lonely New Year’s Eve for Fayth. Her teenage daughter, Natalie sound asleep on the living room floor. Fayth hoped to have shared New Year’s with her boyfriend, Nicholas, but again, he was at work. “Well, here’s to me and something new in 2011” Fayth said to herself. Fayth, a single mom of one, had hopes of being somewhere else in her life. The road hasn’t always been easy, but God has shown his faithfulness to her time and time again; even if she didn’t want to admit it. She struggled with her faith. Ironically, her name was Fayth.

Fayth is a paralegal in a law firm, which was medium in size; fifteen attorneys and ten support staff including other paralegals. Though she didn’t always have a good day, she was in her element when she was there.

Family Law is her specialty. That area of law can be very emotional, but she was good at it. Some days she liked what she did, but then there were those other days. But everyone has days like that. She was living paycheck to paycheck; always behind on bills. She could never get a break long enough to catch up. Nonetheless, she was grateful to be working. Every day was the same old thing. Get up, get dressed, take Natalie to school, go to work, go get Natalie from her grandparents’ house, then go home. She longed for companionship. Her boyfriend Nicholas shows up a few days and nights a week, but something was still missing. Her desire was to marry Nicholas. However, he wasn’t quite ready for that yet.

It was Friday and Fayth couldn’t wait to get off work and go home. She craved a big glass of Moscato D’Asti. That was her favorite wine. It’s light, sweet, fizzy and very Italian. She loved it. Fayth longed to see her friend, Cherry Barryman. Cherry is a fun and sweet young woman who used to live next door with her husband, Lance. They were newlyweds and wonderful people. Cherry and Lance didn’t live there anymore. They moved on to bigger and better things. She missed them a lot. However, on the other side lived the neighbor from hell…..Shelly. Shelly worked Fayth’s nerves all the time; constantly making life miserable for her and her daughter in their neighborhood. Shelly drove Fayth crazy. So did Shelly’s three boys. They were always very destructive and mischievous all the time. They didn’t care. Like a tornado whipping through small towns and destroying everything in its path. Fayth had to deal with it. After all, they were neighbors.
While drinking her wine, the phone rings. Fayth always dreaded the phone. Most of the time she was scared it was yet another bill collector on the other line. But this was New Year’s. “Who is calling me right now?”, Fayth says to herself…

Hi and thank you for stopping by. Really God? Really? will be unveiled in early June 2011. This is a real life journey of my challenges along the road of life. Every so often when things happened to me, sometimes I ask God, Really God? Really? In this journey, God has proven to me time and time again that he does have a sense of humor. In my life, I need to remember that it's okay to have one too.
